Deborah Starbuck
Deborah Starbuck: Working from early childhood starting with pencil and watercolor her passion for the creative arts has resulted in an exploration into a broad number of subjects and mediums. Those mediums include pencil, paint, papier-mâché, fabric, fiberglass, ceramic, wire, collage, and more. Deborah’s mother was a painter and clearly her first inspiration as an artist. In her teens she studied privately with the world renowned artist Simon Greco. In the 1980’s she took studio courses in ceramic sculpture, print making, painting and drawing. Having been inspired by impressionists, she studied painting in Avinion, France through an overseas program.
From 1992 until now, her work was primarily focused on teaching youth art in both the private and public sectors. She has been devoted to making an impact on children’s lives through exposing them to the joy of expressing themselves through their art. One of the projects she is most proud of is the Ocean Bank/Art of the found object annual competition. Children all over Dade County create works of art from donated materials. The profits, when pieces are sold, go back to the school art programs. Pieces from David Fairchild Elementary School, where Deborah volunteered, won top prizes every year.
Since 2002 she has been working primarily as a muralist creating highly detailed paintings covering walls from floor to ceiling, ranging in size from 5 to 35 feet in scope. Clients include The Surf Rider Hotel, Pompano Beach, The Safchick family, and the Peoples family.
In 2005 she participated in the Coral Gables Flamingo Project; working on three of the highly successful birds auctioned off for the benefit of children.
Also, in 2005, she participated in a neighbor for neighbor’s fundraiser creating artist painted wooden gnomes in their wonderful styles to be sold to benefit the program. My three highly detailed Gnomes were featured in cover photo in the tropical Life m Miami Herald article on February 7, 2005.
Currently Deborah Starbuck continues to work as a muralist and teach youth art privately. 305-323-0670, www.muralmiami.com
